Is Off-Road Truck Racing the Easiest Sport on the Planet?

From Transworld - NINE-TIME X GAMES MEDALIST JEREMY “TWITCH” STENBERG
EARNS 2010 LUCAS OIL OFF ROAD SUPER LITE CHAMPIONSHIP IN ROOKIE SEASON

Stenberg would’ve needed to have a pretty bad day to lose out on the championship, and a smooth, trouble-free run to fourth place today was more than enough to help him secure his first short course off-road championship. Congratulations to the 2010 Lucas Oil Off Road Super Lite Champion, Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg! Full Article here.

How many times have MX riders just hopped in a truck and smoked all those other guys who are apparently professionals? You got Twitch winning this one with guys like Jeff Kargola and Ricky James up front. I know that James won a championship last year, not to mention McGrath and Rick Johnson have both been successful at it. Even Deegan is doing well at it. What the fuck? Is the criteria for being a professional truck driver today just being able to afford the truck? Sure, MX riders have gone professional in other motorsports, but none have won any championships. Ward got a second at Indy one year, but that's about it. Actually, I am going to answer my own question. The criteria for being a professional offroad rally/truck driver is definitely the ability to afford the vehicle. Think about it, at X-Games guys like Dave Mirra and Brian Deegan both competed in rally, and we have all of these guys in the truck racing, not to mention Carmichael and Pastrana in NASCAR. And what is the common characteristic in all of them? They are heavily backed by Monster, Rockstar, or Red Bull. Those companies are just looking to further their brand image, as was discussed in the Salute to Energy Drinks, and by making these guys multi-sport athletes, that furthers the image that they are just radical, extreme BROs. Of course let's not also rule out another possibility which I have discussed before, which is that people who can race motorcycles are a superior branch in the tree that is human evolution.
