Hansen Explains: Alessi is a Practice Champion

From Racer X's interview with Josh Hansen: "You gotta be a little bit scared of [Mike] Alessi because he does some crazy dumb s#!t all the time. So he isn’t that cool to race against. He usually wins every practice session, though, because he gets the holeshot and takes off. So that’s his deal."

Let's be real here. I could have called this one. Hell, I think anyone who has ever seen Mike Alessi ride or even speak could have predicted this. But it is so nice to hear (or read, in this case) it coming straight from another pro rider. Everyone who races has seen those immature kids who take off the instant practice starts at full throttle, no need to warm-up or feel the track out. They literally sit at the start and watch whoever is calling riders out for practice, holding the throttle on as if it is the start of an actual race and the board has gone sideways. When the starter calls out anyone, no matter what, these kids take off with a fervent disregard for the safety of themselves or other riders. Sure, we all used to be hyper 11 year olds and did something like this when we were kids. But a pro rider? Give me a break, Alessi. If this kid would actually chill and just let life come to him, I would bet anything he would do so much better. He has to be so high strung all the time, and who can blame him with that Shutter Island-patient of a dad. But seriously Mike, you are a grown man, tell Tony to hit the bricks. The real loser here is Alessi's girlfriend. What the hell is she thinking? How much do you want to bet that she is on the payroll or something, that is the only explanation that I can think of. Kind of a random digression, I know. Anyways, enjoy practice Alessi, because that's the only time you'll be winning anytime in the near future.
